Born: Roanoke, Virginia

Hometown: Portland, Oregon

Notes: John Snead is a freelance role-playing writer living in the wonderful city of Portland, Oregon. He went to college in Washington University in St. Louis, where he attempted to gain a classical education. He received a double major in Mathematics and History with minors in Classics and Physics. From there, he went on to get an MA in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and ended his academic career in the midst of working on a Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology at the University of Southern California. After writing Ars Magica supplements while in college, he expanded his efforts, and by 1998 had managed to transform this into a full-time career.

John has been gaming since 1980 and currently is playing in two regular games. He also continues to be a serious science fiction fan and film buff. His favorite authors include Iain M. Banks, Emma Bull, Steven Brust, John M. Ford, Mary Gentle, P.C. Hodgell, Ken MacLeod, Daniel Keys Moran, Linda Nagata, Andre Norton, Alastair Reynolds, and Melissa Scott.

In his spare time, John is a gourmet cook specializing in Japanese, Chinese, and S.E. Asian food. He is also a 3rd Degree Wiccan Priest of a small Celtic-Alexandrian Tradition called Dragon Path.
