Halifax (Aug 30, 2003 - 11:36 AM CDT): I have been playing for 16 years and never new that TSR Publishers stands for Tactical Studies Rules Publishing.
Tommyboy (Oct 16, 2003 - 8:48 PM CDT): Yeah, Halifax, I was pretty sure I'd seen to oldest rulebooks, and those had the cover artwork done by Larry Elmore... sheesh... But these may have been a test release long before that. These are old books with really primitive artwork, nonetheless.
saporling: (Jan 15, 2004 - 8:30 PM CST) my sister got this 3 book set when i was a kid, and later the d&d red cover basic rules when she read the hobbit in high school. i grew up with this stuff, and even though i have never played the original 3 book set, i cherish still having them, and to me they are wonderful to look over and have as a kind of magical part of my childhood-along with stuff like dragonmaster, hawk the slayer, making swords, and of course, the red cover basic set. this is wonderful stuff to have had the privilidge to have grown up with, and it is a very magical and wonderful part of my youth.
Jim: (Oct 27, 2004 - 12:08 PM CDT) found this set, castle blackmoor and the deities and heroes book for 2$ each at a used book shop. They are awesome books. It is really funny to think that play didn't even involve a dungeon master in this time. In this particular book that is pictured halfling are known as hobbits.
Rastenborg (Mar 15, 2005 - 3:11 PM CST): Is there a free download, not free download, or copy. No Longer in production.
AFD borgman Esq. (Apr 30, 2005 - 9:24 PM CDT): The answer to my own question:
The free downloads for Original Dungeons anfd Dragons ODD are loacated at
World of Greyhawk Bibliography under ODD 1 2 3
You will need Winzip and can use the evaluation version to unlock the adobe file.
Also included is Blackmoor.
4.95 downloads for the rest of the ODD supplements are at RPG Now.
Next time lock all materials in a safe away from friends!
deimos3428: (Dec 16, 2005 - 11:31 PM CST) These are indeed incredible books from the early years of role-playing, but were by no means a test - at least 6 separate printings of the boxed set have been identified, from between 1974 and 1979. For more information on this set, and all early D&D, visit the Acaeum at http://www.acaeum.com
